13 bore Greener MKIII Police Riot Shogun
A very rare and unusual 13 bore (obsolete) Greener ‘E.G.’ MKIII police riot shotgun. These martini actioned smooth bores were contracted by the Egyptian authorities, with a view to arm their police force with a simplistic yet reliable riot weapon – chambered for non commercially available caliber of ammunition. The bottle neck cartridge used a recessed groove at it’s base, which engaged with a pair of protruding pins in the breech face of the weapon’s block. This ensured that the block could not be closed if any non-grooved ammunition was attempted for loading. These efforts were made in an attempt to prevent these weapons from ever being rendered dangerous, should they fall into the wrong hands.
With a serial number of ‘42871’, the 26 inch barrel has a good bore, and is shrouded by a full length walnut fore-end, and iron nose cap. The action has some wear, but opens and closes positively, with all parts complete and correct. A highly unusual piece, which would compliment any collection of martini actioned firearms.
