14 × 33R Wänzl Rifle
  • 14 × 33R Wänzl Rifle

Chambered in obsolete 14 × 33R rimfire, the Wänzl or Wänzel rifle was a breechloading conversion of the Lorenz M1854 and M1862 rifles. The Austro-Hungarian Empire used the Wänzel as their service rifle until they had enough Werndl-Holub M1867 rifles to arm the military. A total of 70,000 Lorenz rifled muskets were converted to the lifting block design, in a very similar flavour to US trapdoor Springfield conversions.

The metalwork has some legacy pitting, but retains a pleasingly dark patina, with good woodwork to match, and lots of proof marks to the barrel.

The action is crisp, with a good spring assist to open the block upon cooking the hammer.
