1777 .69 Charleville Musket
An interesting 1777 pattern French .69 calibre Charleville musket. These arms served French forces through the revolution and Naoleonic wars, finally ending their reign in the early 1840's. Very much an equivalent to the British Brown Bess, these pieces are remarably similar in proportions to an India pattern model.
This piece has been sportised at some point in it's life, and has a rough forestock end, but otherwise excellent barrel, lock and remaining stock. The nicest thing to do would be to replace the stock, or graft on a new forestock section, with two more barrel bands. The lock has excellently strong springs, with original markings. Total length is 139cm.
A fascinating piece of Napoleonic history.
