6lb Naval Solid Shot
A piece of 6lb solid shot, recovered from a Georgian British naval gunnery range – used to train gunners and officers in the years following on from the Napoleonic wars. The 6lb naval gun was typically used aboard the quarterdeck – where the weight of a heavier gun would raise the vessel’s centre of mass adversely, and potentially cause instability. The 6pdr long gun was also put to use in Stern and Bow ‘Chase’ configurations, where long range fire was required to either pursue or evade enemy vessels.
At 3.5” across, this piece makes an excellent collectible, harking back to the golden age of sail.
